Exit Strategy

If any of our faithful readers recall, on inauguration day I had a job interview. I needed suggestions on what excuses to use to call off. If you didn't read it check it out here. Well in that post I revealed how shaky things were at my job. I didn't go into details at the time. But just know when I say shaky I'm talking shakier than a man with Parkinson's at the craps table having an epileptic seizure during an earthquake. LoL. (No offense to anyone with any of those ailments, I was just illustrating my point).

Basically after 5 years of dedicated service can these MFs wrote me up last month on some you got til the end of February to get your #s up or we're going to replace you. I took that one on the chin and in front of my boss I first laughed, then shook my head, signed the write up, and walked out of his office. If you only knew how deep this got. I'm the only black person left. They fired the only other black person about 4 months ago. So I knew I would be next at some point. To be real I been on the grind for the longest probably about a year and a half on and off trying to get the hell out of this place. But for the last 6 months I been on the grind non-stop. I've been on several interviews, but just having no luck so far.

Well good people, I am thrilled to report that I just got a call from the company I interviewed with inauguration day. And they offered me the position!! I will be starting on Monday February 16th. I plan on giving my notice sometime tomorrow. So here's where I need a last bit of help from you readers. I'm trying to figure out how I should exit. Below are the choices I'm throwing around in my head.

1. Give them a regular letter of resignation tomorrow, put in my final week next week and leave respectfully and honorably. Thank them for 5 years of employment, and just say goodbye.

2. Give them my letter of resignation tomorrow detailing how bogus, racist, and discriminatory they are/were and forward a copy to the EEOC.

3. Show the hell out! Curse everyone that I didn't like out. Bitch slap a couple people I really couldn't stand, and do something to mess them up somehow. Nothing crazy like putting a virus on the computers or anything. But just something funny like taking all the damn toilet tissue out the place. LMAO. There was a skit on The Dave Chappelle show where he quit his job after he thought he knocked Oprah up. If you haven't seen it, check below he showed his ass in that skit. I mean literally showed his ass! LoL. (Thanks for the link Malika)

4. Wait until next Friday right before 5pm and throw them the deuces. Most jobs fire you without notice and wait til 5 damn pm to let you go. 2 weeks notice my ass. Feel free to take up to 2 weeks to notice I'm gone!!

Wait I better subtract a finger. LoL

5. Can't think of anymore so feel free to get creative and give me suggestions or ways you've quit bad jobs in the past. I'm all ears. LoL.

I want to thank those of you, including friends and fam that wished me good luck and maybe even said a prayer for me. I Thank God for this blessing especially in these tough economic times. The saying "He's may not always be there when you call, but he's always on time" definitely applies to my situation. Also, a special thanks to my bff. She was there from day one helping me grind, update and fix my resume, find jobs for me to apply to, and motivate me to keep going after each denial.

Just keep in mind most of my blogging was done from work. So there may be a slight hiatus after I start on the 16th. So hopefully my brother will be able to hold this down and keep the blogs coming regularly. I will update you on next week as to how I made my exit. LoL. Lastly, I'm not really a New Year's resolution person. Well I don't write them down at least. But this year I had 4 main things I wanted to accomplish. Number one was to finally find a new job. So that makes one down, and a second in the works. I'll update more on those as they're accomplished.

Thanks again to all.

I wouldnt leave on terms that are too bad.. even though you know it would feel so good! Someday you may need to use them as a reference. 5 years is a long time!

well, first off, here's the link to the dave chappelle skit you were talking about:

i say give them your notice. i gave a job i hated my notice and those sob's let me go on a day that i came to fill in for someone else. in other words, i was FIRED ON MY DAY OFF after i was nice enough to give them my notice. anyway i say to give them the deuces. they may just let you go early so you can chill for a few days before the new gig starts. either way, congrats.

Congrats on the new job! It seems like folks are just gettin' new things crackin' left and right in the new year, nice work!!!

As for the quitting, I'm totally for showin' out and making a scene BUT the rational side of me says to just give your notice and peace the eff out! No need to drop yourself down to their level, no matter how wack the place was. But I would still draft that letter and send it to the EEOC post-employment ;-]

I would bring up the racist comments in my Letter. I worked for Bally Total Fitness for 5 years, and I endured fat jokes from staff mmeber and my boss even yelled at me badly. So when I exited, I wrote EVERYTHING! All the remarks, everything! I gave a copy to the manager, HR, And the HQ....

I basically walked out with an Fuck you and my middle figner in the air...

Congrats on the new job though! Haha...see something comes better when a door closes.CONGRATS!!!! Woot come to cali for a margarita!

I pick option number one, just cause I'm a sucka for doing the right thing. You never know when you may need a recommendation or something. Congrats on the new job, though!

I agree with doing the right thing even though I'm a bad boy....:)

Still, my job told the company that I quit after I was suspended....BULLSHIT! I said deuces any damn way!!!!!!!

CONGRATS!!!!!

Congrats!

I'd say do what you're most comfortable with. Given their track record, you may want to wait so they don't pull some dumb ish and say leave that day.

Depends on how much energy you want to put into this, but I think I'd get a good laugh outta what I would say on the way out the door.

Man oh man Dave is crazy as hell. That is one of the best ones. I miss him. your not alone I am the only one in my office, but I don't have any problems with them like that.

Now back to you. I would do a combination of 1 and 2. You need to send the resignation and contact the EEOC. You can bring a suit even if you are not working there any more. If you don't want to do the two weeks, don't your not obligated - your an employee at will. They can fire you when you want, and you can quit when you want. So, if you want a little vacay before the new job, take a couple days.

BOUNCE!! Oh and congrats again, you give me courage to keep sending mine in - when i stop being lazy.

As a corporate chick... I strongly advise that you select #1.
The way I see it, you've had (all this) time to go to HR about the racist comment and what-not, so bringing it up now is going to accomplish what? Nada.. except for them walking you out early or something. LOL
Now if you have an exit interview... then that might be the time to mention it.
CONGRATS on the new gig!! *w00T!!*

Jillian said...

agree with kryssy...#1 is the best way and as she stated reveal anything necessary in the exit interview..

but on the note of suggestions...i'd love to see a Jerry MacGuire like exit...do you have a fish?...and then in the end just say "WHO'S WITH ME?!??!" lol

But CONGRATULATIONS on the new job...God doesn't always give you what you want when you want it...gives you what you need when it's needed ;)..

Congrats C Recks on the new job. You know like it is said, the last to get hired is the first to get fired. Sounds like they were gunning to run your ass up outta there. These big companies kill me with the whole Equal Opportunity Employer bullshit, then the minute some shit goes south, they are quick to look at you nine ways crazy because they think they are entitled to do that shit. I'm just glad that you were able to set up your plan accordingly and hope for the best. And that's what you got. Again, I'm truly happy for your success. Hope the new job awaits better possibilities. Kick ass and take names, playa!

as much i wanna jump on the bandwagon and say wave your middle finger and tell em' to kiss your ass while you walk out the door... i can't!

You'll never know when you will need them as a reference... and a bad reference can screw u up in a future job search

btw- where have you been mister... why haven't you stopped by my blog?? EHH??

i think you deserve a break in between jobs i say make today your last day and when they call tell them you forgot to tell them you QUIT!!!! lmao

Congrats honey =]

But umm... with regards to your departure (although I'm sure you were joking because you seem like a well-grounded man), I'd stick with the proper way. That's just me. I guess I'm the cornball.

Give your 2 weeks notice and just be elated that you are moving on to something better.

I wouldn't even bring up the racism in the letter of resignation. However, if you're pressed - then just advise the EEOC and call it a day.

The company will get reprimanded one way or another.

Good Luck!

Don't we all wish we could tell everyone to kiss our ass and then 2 step out the place? But in reality you need to rise above the situation. You were blessed to get a better opportunity and though your current employer might be a jack ass, that experience surely helped to aid in your new position! I think you should submit your resignation on 2/9 and give them 1 weeks notice. They've probably been looking to see if someone could replace your or just load your work on everyone else...You're moving on to bigger and better things...the best revenge is happiness!

Yayyyyyyyy, congrats to you!!!! You deserve it and like Jillian said, all your due comes to you when the time is right!!!!

The old me, Miss reckless would've WALKED IT OUTTTTTT on them but the newer me is saying give them your 2wks notice. If your given an exit interview, lay everything out & personally, I would still send my letter to the EEOC!!

Again congrats :)

It sucks when people treat you bad and you can't do anything about it, cause in this situation they would be a great reference for another job since you've been with them for 5 years :( I would say go with the first choice and leave on good terms you can't let other people make you show out cause I bet they had a certain image of you in their minds and when you leave in a good/professional way you will be crushing that bad image ;)

oh yea I forgot to say this:

CONGRATS ON THE NEW JOB!!!

:)

I was in a situation simular to yours a few years back...I left on good terms and then after I was in my new job for six months, I took my former manager to court...I didn't win, but I got the sheer satisfaction of watching that racist b$%@h squirm and sweat the entire time during that hearing.

The same Manager was taken to court again by 23 other people in a class action suit...It was settled out of court and she was removed and given another position.

I work across the street from her and everytime I pass her on the street, I giggle my ass off...

I wouldn't suggest you do that,it's
risky, but then I'm that kinda guy at times...(Just as much of an asshole as the people I hate.-lolol)
